what do i wear?

tips on clothing, footwear and hygiene

A smile! You will be amazed at how infectious it is.

For modern jive you don’t need any special clothes, just something loose and comfortable.

Jeans and tee-shirts are fine, so are tuxedos and cocktail dresses - and anything in between. Remember though, you’re going to get HOT!

The same goes for shoes, something comfortable and not too slippery-soled. Trainers are fine as long as they're not too 'sticky', you won't be able to turn or spin easily and your knees are going to suffer.

High heels are fine but after a hard night’s dancing your feet are going to feel it - and that’s just the men!

Seriously though, if you are going to wear high heels bring along another pair of flatties just in case, the change is good for your muscles and your feet will thank you for it.

Hygiene

Modern jive is an aerobic contact sport!

You will get hot and sweaty and will be dancing with a partner - quite often one you don’t know.

Most of the moves involve raising one or both arms and some of them are quite up close and personal. Your greasy hair, your BO or those garlic mushrooms you’ve just eaten are not nice for your partner!

And guys, throwing her into a sexy seducer and dripping sweat from your forehead onto her face as she clings to your soggy teeshirt will hardly endear her to you, now will it? Nuff said?

So bring a change of shirt, it can work wonders for your popularity on those hot, sultry nights.

Ladies (and gents for that matter), don’t use any hand cream before you dance, your partner won’t be able to keep hold of you and you’ll end up on your backside with your legs in the air - uncool!!

A small towel will never outlive its usefulness. (You might want to wash it occasionally though!)

Finally, we know we’re in Spain but bring something warm to slip on when you leave. We wouldn’t want you to get a chill, would we?
