what is modern jive?

How it started and why it's so popular

Modern jive is a combination of many well-known dance styles, such as Jive, Salsa, Rock-n-Roll and Ballroom.

It's a modern, freestyle version of these disciplines but without the complicated footwork.

It's known by many different brand names (like Ceroc, Leroc, French Jive, Mojive, etc.) but generally all the moves are practised and labelled in the same way.

It can be fast and furious or slinky and sexy depending on the music and the mood - and how well you know your partner, of course!

Although it's known as 'Modern Jive', it has been around for over 20 years and its increasing popularity has made it the fastest-growing partner dance around today.

Its success as a dance has largely been down to its simplicity. Even those with 'two left feet' will be up on the floor looking like pros after just a few classes.

Not only that, but it's a fantastic way to keep fit, socialise and listen to some great music. Exercise should not be this much fun!

It has become a phenomenon in the UK with huge weekend events and competitions throughout the year.

The reason for this is that it is easy to learn and has fantastic visual impact. After a few lessons you can master a small core of basic moves and you will be impressing friends and strangers alike with your prowess on the dance floor.

It’s for all ages and it’s a totally fun way to learn to dance, keep fit and make new friends.

Once you've been to a few classes or workshops you'll be going home wondering "WHY DIDN'T I DO THIS YEARS AGO?"
