how does it work?
Our dance workshops explained
For our workshops you don’t normally need a partner unless it is specifically stated, as in our 'Close Moves' class. And you certainly don’t need to be Fred Astaire or Ginger Rogers!
You just need to turn up with a smile on your face and your enthusiasm to learn something new, or improve on something you already know.
For beginners especially, there is no need to feel nervous or intimidated, the atmosphere is very relaxed and our main objective is for you to have fun. You will be among like-minded friends here.
what you will do
Our workshops always start with a quick warm-up and stretch which is specifically designed to ease your body gently in to the session and thus avoid any pain later on!
We then start with a demonstration of the moves and work our way through them one by one. We break down the moves very precisely and at each stage we go into details of styling and positioning.
Our aim is to teach you to do a small variety of moves really well, not to cram in a load of moves and skip the detail stuff!
So generally, in a three-hour session, you'll be learning to do 6 to 9 moves properly, with style and confidence. That's only 2 or 3 per hour! How hard is that?
take a break
There will be a refreshment break at around half-time where Carole's famous chocolate brownies will be freely available.
Liquid refreshment will be your responsibility so please bring it with you. Or you can buy it at the tennis club bar. Don't forget to bring water and a towel, you'll be working harder than normal dance classes! And NO ALCOHOL please.
At the end of the session we will have a gentle warm down to ease those aching muscles! We will also give you a written resume of the day's moves so you can take it home and go through them at your leisure later on.
